The Prez has been a busy boy. Besides convincing Congress to hand over a few hundred billion for his pet projects, here are a few of the other "changes" he's made.
Children's Health Insurance Program Reauthorization Act of 2009
February 4, 2009 (Got to help the children)
Executive Order 13498—Amendments to Executive Order 13199 and Establishment of the President's Advisory Council for Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships February 5, 2009 (Geez, this sounds like Bush)
Executive Order 13500—Further Amendments to Executive Order 12859, Establishment of the Domestic Policy Council February 5, 2009 (gots to have one of those)
Executive Order 13499—Further Amendments to Executive Order 12835, Establishment of the National Economic Council February 5, 2009 (we're saved!)
Executive Order 13501—Establishing the President's Economic Recovery Advisory Board February 6, 2009 (so what's the difference between the Board and the Council?)
Executive Order 13503—Establishment of the White House Office of Urban Affairs, February 19, 2009 (Who lives in Urban areas? Oh, yeah.)
If you're interested, they keep track of all the laws and executive orders at the Office of the Federal Register. There are thousands of laws! Good chance you broke one today. I know I did, but I'm not telling. Let them figure it out.
Actually, any businessman can be brought up on charges under the anti-trust laws. They are written so vaguely you can be arrested for doing or not doing just about anything. But that's another post.
Left Coast Capitalist
"Every government interference in the economy consists of giving an unearned benefit, extorted by force, to some men at the expense of others."
"One of the methods used by statists to destroy capitalism consists in establishing controls that tie a given industry hand and foot, making it unable to solve its problems, then declaring that freedom has failed and stronger controls are necessary."
Ayn Rand
Rand put it best in her 1973 article, “Censorship: Local and Express”:
“The conservatives see man as a body freely roaming the earth, building sand piles or factories -- with an electronic computer inside his skull, controlled from Washington . The liberals [the Democrats] see man as a soul freewheeling to the farthest reaches of the universe -- but wearing chains from nose to toes when he crosses the street to buy a loaf of bread.”
Further on, she notes:
“…Each camp wants to control the realm it regards as metaphysically important; each grants freedom only to the activities it despises….. ‘Control,‘ to both camps, means the power to rule by physical force. The conservatives want to rule man’s consciousness; the liberals, his body.”
