"Every government interference in the economy consists of giving an unearned benefit, extorted by force, to some men at the expense of others."

"One of the methods used by statists to destroy capitalism consists in establishing controls that tie a given industry hand and foot, making it unable to solve its problems, then declaring that freedom has failed and stronger controls are necessary."

Ayn Rand

Rand put it best in her 1973 article, “Censorship: Local and Express”:

“The conservatives see man as a body freely roaming the earth, building sand piles or factories -- with an electronic computer inside his skull, controlled from Washington . The liberals [the Democrats] see man as a soul freewheeling to the farthest reaches of the universe -- but wearing chains from nose to toes when he crosses the street to buy a loaf of bread.”

Further on, she notes:
“…Each camp wants to control the realm it regards as metaphysically important; each grants freedom only to the activities it despises….. ‘Control,‘ to both camps, means the power to rule by physical force. The conservatives want to rule man’s consciousness; the liberals, his body.”

Former Alma Mater

Well, Arizona State University folded under the pressure of leftist alumni and agreed to give Barack Hussein Obama an honorary degree in ... well, something. At first saying that the school policy is not to give degrees to speakers who haven't done anything of note, the school president soon went into the tap dance mode.

"University spokeswoman Sharon Keeler said Tuesday that the University awards honorary degrees to recognize individuals for their work and accomplishments spanning their lifetime. ‘Because President Obama’s body of work is yet to come, it’s inappropriate to recognize him at this time,' Keeler said."

After having time to think it over, and undoubtedly hearing from several influential donors, “There was no intended slight,” Crow said by telephone from his office in Tempe. “We had not yet talked about what honors we might give him as our commencement speaker, and we still have a month to work all that out. We don’t want anyone to think we do not recognize what he has achieved and what he means in America (sic).”

In my opinion, this is about Arizona still trying to gain favors among Blacks after at first refusing to recognize Martin Luther King's birthday as a holiday. We all know how well that went over. After the NFL threatened to withdraw it's Super Bowl spot, Arizona folded like a wet noodle. ASU has shown just as much backbone.

I don't blame the school for trying to gain notoriety by having Mr O come to commencement. But giving him an unearned honor after saying they wouldn't is @*#!ed up.

Well, this alumni will no longer be supporting the home of the Sun Devil. You can kiss my contribution goodbye.
